POSITION OVERVIEW
A rapidly expanding, entrepreneurial technology company, Alarm.com, is seeking a motivated Front End Software Engineering Summer Intern who wants to be part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing team. The Engineering team is perfect for candidates who want to gain exposure to a wide variety of technologies in the Internet of Things world including home automation, intelligent video analysis, cutting edge web application development, e-commerce applications, and large scale real-time databases.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Software Engineering Intern's primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Develop full stack software, with an emphasis on front-end web development, working primarily with Ember and C#.
  • Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems.
  • Take part in the entire project life cycle, from requirements development to deployment.
  • Work hard and be flexible. We have quick development cycles, evolving requirements, and lots of cross-team collaboration.
  • Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly and when to build a robust solution. Handle corner cases in a sensible way. Thoughtfully consider the trade-offs between UI perfection and technical complexity.
  • Analyzing functional requirements and product specifications
  • Collaborating with Quality Assurance in developing a test plan to ensure successful deployment of updates

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be currently pursuing a B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science or similar engineering program with strong academic performance. Liberal arts academic experience or interests are also a plus.
  • Self-starter, analytical, tenacious problem solver
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with JavaScript and JavaScript application frameworks (e.g. Ember, React, Vue)
  • Experience with CSS and HTML.
  • Experience with object-oriented languages (e.g. C#).
  • Experience with JavaScript application build tools and automated testing frameworks (e.g. Qunit, Jest, Karma, Mocha)
  • Exposure to TypeScript.
  • Exposure to Web API design.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, principles, and technologies (e.g. WebSockets)
