Special Events Management (SEM) is the leading producer of outdoor special events throughout the Chicagoland area as well as in various markets across the U.S. We are seeking a summer event marketing intern to join our marketing and sponsorship team. With some nominal flexibility, the term of the internship is from May 1 through September 30.

This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment and will finish the internship having gained a broad experience in various aspects of event marketing and public relations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in sponsorship fulfillment for Event Managers/on-site operations.
  • Assist marketing and graphics department with creative ideas. Actively participate in client meetings.
  • Proofread press releases and calendar listings provided from the public relations department.
  • Create media wrap-ups for each event highlighting all marketing and public relations efforts.
  • Availability to be the on-site manager to execute sponsorships at some events (generally held on weekends) to meet and fulfill sponsor needs.
  • Pursue, with supervision, partnership opportunities with various media outlets for events. Fully execute partnerships (from contracts through wrap- ups).
  • Lead social media campaign for company include scheduling posts and live posting at events.

Requirements

Special Events Management (SEM) is looking for a self-motivated undergraduate student who's outgoing and not afraid to get out in the real world and solicit event marketing opportunities. The intern needs to be able to work both independently as well as part of a team. An ability to work weekends is not required but is a huge advantage.

SEM's offices are located in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood on the city's southwest side. Public transportation is within blocks of the office. In many cases, it is the responsibility of the intern to get to and from event sites (start times can be as early as 3 a.m.).

This person should have excellent verbal and written skills with extensive knowledge in Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Knowledge of Chicago media outlets and general marketing practices is a plus!

Remote work is available during the week in addition to required office time.

Compensation

We offer a weekly stipend for all interns. Hourly pay is provided for any weekend work.
