Medical Assistant

Job Summary

Medical assistants are healthcare professionals who work alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff to provide patient care and administrative support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Record patient information such as medical history, vital signs, and test results.
  • Prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures by taking their medical history and preparing examination rooms.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during medical procedures and examinations, including taking vital signs and collecting specimens.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws and urinalysis.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed by physicians.
  • Schedule appointments, manage medical records, and perform other administrative duties.
  • Provide basic patient education and answer questions related to medications, procedures, and medical conditions.
  • Adhere to medical and ethical standards, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain medical supplies and equipment, ensuring that they are clean, organized, and well-stocked.
  • Communicate with patients, their families, and other healthcare staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Depending on the structure and needs of the healthcare institution, a medical assistant may have varying responsibilities with a more demanding schedule as they may be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays to accommodate patient needs.
