What You'll Do:

We are hiring a Shipping & Receiving Assistant at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL. This is a 100% onsite position. We are looking for someone who will prepare pallets for shipping, handle receiving duties (ins & outs), help with print shop responsibilities like boxing items for shipments, ensure quality control for mail services responsibilities, and comfortably lift up to 50 pounds. You will also operate mailroom machines and equipment. Experience with mail services and/or print shop services is highly preferred.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for preparing pallets ranging in size from 4'x4' to 4'x8'. Securing products with binding material to ensure safe delivery.
  • Must have a valid driver license to operate company vehicles to pick up mail from the post office.
  • Keeping up to date on classes of mail, reply mail, special services, international mail, postal rates, and other postal regulations so that Vulcan's mail will be handled in the timeliest and cost effective manner.
  • Must be able to operate equipment such as a postage meter with accounting systems, folder and inserters, and the UPS and FedEx manifest shipping systems so that mail and packages have the correct postage, are inserted in proper envelopes, and are shipped at the most cost effective rate.
  • Responsible for the pick-up of mail at the post office for Corporate Offices.
  • Responsible for sorting mail and delivering to mail drop-off areas on each floor so that Vulcan's business can operate on a smooth and timely basis.
  • Responsible for periodic rounds of all mail drop areas to retrieve outgoing and interoffice mail, packages, and supplies, and also separating and redistributing so that mail deadlines can be met.
  • Responsible for the delivery of important documents, valuable documents, and making bank deposits in an efficient and businesslike manner so that security, service, and business needs are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all outgoing mail is weighed and affixed with correct postage, as well as maintaining separation of mail as required by USPS. Also, ensure the accuracy of UPS and FED/EX shipments.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality control in the folding, inserting, sorting, and metering of all company mail, as well as all other areas of Mail Services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of the Company mail vehicle and advising supervisors of any repairs needed.
  • Responsible for performing general inspections of incoming mail to spot potential hazards and provide a safe environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Education. High School diploma is required.

Experience. Additional requirements include one (1) year experience in mail services with demonstrated proficiency and education in specialties appropriate to the assignment. Knowledge of United States Postal Services (USPS) regulations (postage meters with accounting systems, folder and inserters, manifest shipping system, etc.) and other mailroom equipment is preferred.

Technology Skills. Must have some computer skills, such as Word and Excel, mailing software such as Smart Sort and Flex Mail.

Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with both internal and external customers. Must be a team player, multi-task oriented, and be able to work in a fast paced environment with a strong commitment to service in support of the Company.

Other Requirements. Must be able to lift or pull 50 pounds. Must be able to work onsite 100%.
