JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX Sports Digital is searching for a creative, talented & experienced Executive Editor to join our team in Los Angeles, CA. As our Executive Editor, you will lead creation, execution, and daily oversight of the editorial strategy, as well as work closely with the FOX Consumer Products & Engineering team along with other Executives to deliver best-in-class presentation of content & data that spans the FOX Sports App, FOXSports.com, FOX Sports Newsletters, and other potential FOX platforms. This opportunity will require you to lead and manage a talented group of colleagues, from writers to editors to researchers and more, spanning day-to-day seasonal and off-season coverage (topics, trends, analysis & storytelling), major event coverage (i.e. World Cups, World Series, Super Bowl, etc.), breaking news, plus support major company initiatives, including new priorities (i.e. gambling and the UFL). In addition to content, it will be critical the FOX Sports Digital Executive Editor is proficient in data analysis, internal communication, and collaboration with other content & business units, notably social media, production, product & engineering, marketing, PR, sales & business development.

The ideal candidate is proficient in sports knowledge, maintains valuable industry relationships (notably with writers & editors), has strong, proven perspective on strategy, and is eager to test new, creative, innovative approaches to best serve sports fans. The role will be required to create & foster a highly collaborative office culture, to be present in the office 4 days a week and whenever there are tentpole sporting events or other priority initiatives - with flexibility during off-seasons.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and oversee the editorial strategy, content, and presentation across FOX Sports digital platforms, including in-season, off-season, and tentpole event coverage for priority leagues, with additional emphasis around major company tentpole events
  • Build the ultimate team through group and individual development, as well as utilize relationships and resources to recruit the best & brightest into the mission
  • Create valuable cross-departmental and cross-platform relationships
  • Analyze data and research, in coordination with Research teams, to determine improved strategy, identify new opportunities, and grow reach
  • Communicate effectively & efficiently internally, electronically, and in-person, spanning 1:1 conversations, team discussions and brainstorms, cross-departmental meetings, and executive reporting, as well as represent the organization externally when called upon
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, consumption trends, revenue trends, and the world of sports, notably within the framework of company partners, be it leagues, platforms, or otherwise

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 8+ years of experience in digital media or related field; exceptions made for highly creative, highly effective work done in less time
  • Deep, valuable contacts in digital media
  • Strong organizational skills to communicate strategy, track progress against that strategy, and ensure that the work is moving the team toward the organization's goals
  • Strong managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills, with examples of navigating dynamic executive environments
  • Ability to effectively communicate to departments and department heads, communicate and collaborate with key partners across product engineering, TV, and other groups
  • Fluency in analytics, social sharing/sourcing tools, and content management systems, as well as the ability to implement data-directional decision-making
  • Expert knowledge of online platforms like WordPress and SEO concepts, as well as knowledge of emerging platforms & trends like AI and Social-based Search
  • Willingness and open-mindedness to try and fail, innovate, and tackle new challenges to continue to find new ways to push the business forward and serve sports fans better than ever
  • Proven ability to partner with high-level, prominent editorial talent and contributors, and unlocking top tier performance and ongoing growth and development
  • Ability to clearly, effectively, and efficiently articulate strategy and work collaboratively with several different departments and content producers
  • Ability to be in the office 4 days a week, as well as around major tentpole events & company priorities, with flexibility during off-seasons & needed basis

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or another related field

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $140,000.00-215,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
